More than 75 people came together during the first two weeks of January to ensure the retreat center was ready to open – hauling and installing furniture, cleaning and more.  Thanks to everyone who worked and prayed for a successful beginning – we did it!

Come aside and rest awhile during the busy times of the Black Hills Stock Show at the Terra Sancta Retreat Center.  January 31 through February 5, the retreat center invites you to come stay and pray with us.

Each guest will received a Stay and Pray reflection booklet, which features a daily scripture passage, along with a suggested approach for your meditation and prayerful response.  There are four daily reflection offerings that are designed to provide 15-20 minutes of directed prayer.  Praying the Seasons of your Life was developed by Sr Lorane Coffin, OSB and Sr Marie Schwan, CSJ specifically for this Stay and Pray event.

Guests will enjoy family style rooms (2 queen size beds with an in-room bathroom), a daily breakfast buffet with morning prayer and 24-hour access to the small chapel in the retreat center.

  • STAY in family style sleeping rooms –accommodating as many as four people in each room.  The family style sleeping rooms feature queen-size beds, in-room bathrooms and amazing views of the wooded hillside.  Full hot breakfast buffet included.
  • PRAY during daily reflection sessions.
  • WORK on small projects. Retreat participants will be provided with all necessary equipment and supplies to share their time and talent with the retreat center.  Retreat costs reflect a reduced price based on participants contributing to Terra Sancta through these work projects.
  • PLAY! Reflection sessions and or work projects will be scheduled for you to fully participate in the activity or event happening in and around Rapid City.

]]> http://terrasancta.org/2011/12/december-construction-updates/feed/ 0 Cleaning Updates http://terrasancta.org/2011/12/cleaning-updates/ http://terrasancta.org/2011/12/cleaning-updates/#comments Mon, 12 Dec 2011 21:07:59 +0000 mwilson http://terrasancta.org/?p=1126 A great group of volunteers, including parishioners from OLBH and Sisters Carol, Florence and Yvette from St Martin Monastery, have finished the initial cleaning of all 24 sleeping rooms on second and third floor.  The cleaning team has been assisted by several prayer partners.

At this point, cleaning involves vacuuming, dusting walls and surfaces and washing the windows.  Dust will continue to settle and we’ll do it all again . . . 24 sleeping rooms, hallways, stairwells, meeting rooms and more will need to be cleaned prior to the retreat center opening for business in early January.

]]> http://terrasancta.org/2011/11/november-construction-update-2/feed/ 0 Trails Update http://terrasancta.org/2011/11/trails-update/ http://terrasancta.org/2011/11/trails-update/#comments Fri, 18 Nov 2011 02:35:16 +0000 mwilson http://terrasancta.org/?p=1041 The Trails Committee has had a very busy spring, summer and fall.  The Committee and many volunteers were able to accomplish a lot; and more work awaits us in the spring.  If you’d like to help with the continued work to prep the outdoor recreation areas, please be sure to complete the Prospective Volunteer Profile this winter so you’re ready to join the group when the weather warms up in 2012.  The Trails Commitee has developed a detailed map (PDF).
The Committee has provided the latest updates from early November:
  • The “Red Trail” is finished.  No other trails have been started as of late October.
  • Three sites for Amphitheater/Fire Pits have been chosen.  These are identified as AmThtr1, 2, 3 on the PDF map.  There is also an alternative site for Amphitheater 3 which is AT3_Alt on the PDF map.
  • Challenge course.  The potential site for this is “Challenge” on the PDF map.  A design team is working on the details for the challenge course. Volunteers will be needed to start construction and then installation in 2012.
  • Cans cleanup.  There are two sites where there are a number of old cans, etc that will be cleaned up.  On the PDF map they are “Cans”  at latitude 44.1072 longitude -103.30844, and “Cans2″ at latitude 44.10935 longitude -103.3094.  A group volunteered to clean up one area of “cans.”
  • A potential site for solitude/meditation and a path to the site from the amphitheater 3 location have also been identified.   The path would probably remain as a rustic undeveloped trail.
  •  Access Trail.  The trail committee has flagged a potential access trail to the “Red Trail”.  Also a spot for a trailhead at the beginning of the access trail has also been identified.
